Olive grove origin gets lost in the night of the times. Its expansion ran parallel to the one of the ancient world civilizations that were developed in the Mediterranean area. Its crop spread over the most part of the Mediterranean basin regions.

Thousand years old historical references and archaeological findings appoint Lower Asia and the Middle East, as the origin of the olive grove. The evolution of inhabitants of these lands is intimately related to the olive grove and its fruit. The symbiosis between tree and men to whom it feeds is such that it was raised to category of a holy tree. Sceptres of kings were made from its wood, outstanding men were crowned with its leafs and branches, and its juice, not only as food but was also used for hair care and for body embellishment as well as for medicine manufacture.

Olive grove was introduced in Spain around 500 BC, possibly by Fenitians. Since then, a quick diffusion to Iberian communities crops has ocurred.
